Welcome!
FSU's Program in Interdisciplinary Computing is dedicated to increasing student exposure to technologies that will allow them to innovate and lead within their discipline.
PIC works with colleges and departments across campus to determine which computer skills and applications are important to each discipline. Common needs are identified across disciplines and courses are developed to meet those needs with a focus on applying skills in a discipline-specific manner.
PIC supports a wide variety of valuable computing and information technology courses open to all students. Subject areas include business technology, Web design and development, digital media, information management, communication technologies, game and simulation design, geographic information systems, and applied computer programming.
PIC is funded by the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Communication and Information, with support from several other FSU Colleges, to assists faculty from across the University with the development, operation and promotion of interdisciplinary computing and IT courses by:
- providing the computing infrastructure faculty need to offer the courses
- collaborating with faculties from across campus to develop interdisciplinary courses for a wide audience
- promoting interdisciplinary computing and IT instruction
- raising student awareness of the benefits provided by the computing courses that are available
Faculty representatives from across campus form a steering committee that plays an important role in deciding what courses are needed at FSU and developing the objectives for each course. PIC seeks to take advantage of valuable domain knowledge from a variety of academic units to bring students the highest-quality relevant computer courses to meet their discipline-specific needs. You can read more about PIC in our Program Bylaws, and more about the PIC Steering Committee in the PSC Bylaws.
