Knowledge + Technology = Innovation
PIC was established based on the belief that computing and digital technologies have become an integrated and essential component of all disciplines. The faculty of PIC believe that through an integrated education in discipline-specific knowledge and computing and information technology concepts and skills FSU students will become tomorrow's innovators.
Goal-Oriented Computing
We believe that not all students are naturally motivated to pursue deeper levels of computing knowledge and skills, but students *are* motivated to learn more about their own discipline-specific passions. PIC utilizes this basic premise to engage students with technology by showing them how it relates to activities in their discipline.
Working Together
In traditional computer classes, students are often discouraged from collaborating on projects. PIC strongly believes that collaborating in teams and in pairs is an effective way to engage students that might otherwise become lost and frustrated. Collaboration is valuable to students in preparing them for work in professional environments. Collaboration also provides a way for students to gain knowledge and understanding from other student's perspectives. While collaboration is embedded in all PIC courses, we also provide methods of assuring that all students are responsible for independently learning the course material.
Interdisciplinary Benefits
The faculty of PIC have learned that there is much to be gained from the collaboration of teachers, and students from different disciplines. By combining unique and valuable perspectives on important computing topics, we learn from each other gaining the best qualities of all disciplines. We believe that the future of education and innovation lies in breaking down any barriers that exist between disciplines and in encouraging the free flow of information.
